Sunday July 25, 2010 Glacier nat park.

I knew it would be good but Oh God I wasn't prepared for this. The places I've been & things seen are many & varied... but this will take me some time to gain composure. After a few days... it's beyond my capacity for a description. Maybe even pics can't capture it. For now my soul has been hijacked into the abyss of the sublime nature of Glacier.

Glacier Nat pk IS THE Crown of the Continent!

Looped around the south of the park on Hwy 2. East Glacier and Two Medicine(separate posts) to stay a night at St Marys, MT. Up early & ready to go. No better way to spend a birthday than drive the Going to the Sun Road. East to West ... w/ the sun. sun behind you is great visibility & no glare. When there i s time... no I can't really describe it.. Pics can't describe it. Elevs 9,600+

On into the afternoon followed the stream down to Lake McDonald -- that's the modern name of the lake. Waded in the stream and stood on the ground that The Kootenai, The Salish, The Penne di Orille... The Flathead tribe.... was named "Place where they dance". It's where ceremonial dance was given to the Kootenai during the 1st winter on earth.

The Flathead, The Blackfeet, ... all the tribes of the area regard Glacier as their home since time began and treat it as their home. Their creed is "May you always respect the land you walk on".

when there's time... will describe better.

You never drink twice from the same stream.

Cinco de 'Dega

It's Talladega Baby!

Gotta make one more run at Talladega. It's the best track of all.

Cold front came through last night and couldn't get any cooperation from the weather. Overcast grey, low cieling- 400' to 600', wind 12 to 15 @ 270* would not break.

Broke clear enough to get the jet dryers off the track and run some practice laps/heats.

Still love to go to the track but it's not the same. Put off writing this from a couple years back but can no longer ignore; The races have peaked. We've past the apex,... the zenith, the top, the peak of racing. ?Is it over? No. ?Is it in a decline? yes. How long? ?Don't know but the momentum is to the downside.

This is Friday, time trials and practice day... not a big attendance day, but there is hardly anybody here. ?Am I the only real trooper out here? There's maybe 20 people in the stands. OK, they start practice laps/ mini-heats... and there's 50 people in the stands. It's a good day!

Sometimes I thin I've seen the peak, the apex, the zenith of racing... was glad to see it and savor the greatness of it. Maybe it's on a down cycle now... lower attendance... younger fans that don't understand Petty, Pearson, Baker ect... the pioneers of racing.

These young kids are different thinking. some of the drivers are 19. On social security now... all these drivers look young. A new era of racing is beginning. Glad I got to see it when it was the real stuff.

                 It's Talladega Baby!

SQL= Squirrel Journey #26

May 3, 2017

The story you are about to see is true. The names have been changed to protect the innocent, and the stupid.

*******

Often things don't make sense in this crazy mixed up world.

First thing you know there's innocent kidding and horsing around. Then it escalates to grab ass. Sometimes things get out of hand and a line is crossed into the dark side...

... and a squirrel is killed. That's where I come in. My name is Sgt Hargus; I carry a badge.

Welcome to Squirrel Beat.

**********

It was Tuesday 9:34am. Me and my partner, Officer MooseDude were working out of vice division when the call came in. The report was a squirrel down on Hwy 25; that meant Isbelltown. We got a motor pool squad car and arrived on the scene at 10:21pm and went to work.

Officer MooseDude: Looks like a hit and run; the same MO of the Norman Drive case last month. Something doesn't add up.

Sgt Hargus: ?What are you suggesting?

MooseDude: Not suggesting anything Hargus. Just making an observation. Don't get your ass chapped.

Sgt Hargus: Just the Facts. Your saying that this was not an ordinary hit and run? You're saying this squirrel was killed and moved to here by the tree? I concur!

MooseDude: ?How did you arrive at your conclusion?

Sgt Hargus: Because here is the sledge hammer that was used to beat the victim to death. Car didn't run over him. Looks like our worst fears have come true; We've got a serial squirrel killer on the loose.

MooseDude: ?What do you make of the initials "J S" welded on the hammer?

Sgt Hargus: The owners initials. Wanted to make sure another workman didn't take his hammer. Find the owner of this sledge hammer and we've got our killer. Check with records for any priors with the initials "J S", You know,... Jack Shit, Joe Spane,  ... could be the lead we're looking for.

MooseDude; Got it. I'm on it.

Sgt Hargus: One thing is for certain.

MooseDude: ?Whats that?

Sgt Hargus: This squirrel won't be crossing any more streets anytime soon.

MooseDude: Looks like he's at the end of the road.

Sgt Hargus: He bought the farm.

MooseDude: He kicked the bucket.

Sgt Hargus: He's on that Highway to Heaven.

MooseDude: He's crossed the bridge.

Sgt Hargus: His clock got cleaned.

MooseDude: Cleaned his greens.

Sgt Hargus:  Strike three called.

MooseDude: He's cleared for takeoff.

Sgt Hargus: He got the call.

MooseDude: The bells toll for him.

Sgt Hargus: He wuz a runnin' good all day 'til _____.

MooseDude: His number came up.

Sgt Hargus: He didn't make it.

MooseDude: He got T-boned by a maul.

Sgt Hargus: He's on deck.

MooseDude: He caught the "A" train.

Sgt Hargus: He's outta here.

MooseDude: He's pushin' up daises.

Sgt Hargus: He got his round trip ticket punched.

MooseDude: He's history.

Sgt Hargus: He's down for the count.

MooseDude: Alright, now the paperwork. And don't let it get personal.
