Blue Angels airshow 2015 Tuscaloosa, ALa

loading video now. will come back later w/ blog post text. bear w/ me.

Text/ copy will come in time.

The Navy/ Marine Corps team can't be beat. ... god don't you love those pilots!

This was a great day to see the best of our active duty Veterans on the job. I wish I could have taken my Grandad to this air show. He was a WWI infantry soldier in the 42nd Rainbow Division that was at The Marne, The 2nd Somme, and other battles. Grampa Wood said he watched the biplane dogfights above while in the trenches and wanted to fly if he lived through the war.

Grampa wood was a barnstormer in the 1930s and taught me to fly his Cessna 182 when I was 11. I wish he could have seen these great aircraft today. Grampa Wood,... this Blue Angels airshow today is dedicated to you in your honor.  More text in time.

Firehole camp Utah Sunset Tuesday June 15, 2010

It's been a long day. A transit day, after a couple days Trout fishing at Flaming Gorge Utah, time to head north into the next leg... up into Wyoming. Firehole camp was not planned.  Rock Springs was a transit point on I 80, too busy.  After diverting 20 miles south down hwy 191 to this place... what luck.

Firehole Canyon camp is the northernmost edge of Flaming gorge, Green River. I guess you could call it the high,... arid plains.... Most call it desert. Yes, I am a High Plains Drifter. It is stunningly,... breathtakingly beautiful. Sunset is Wow! double wow !! Quiet, cool chill thin air. Thick air... even though it's thin... you can eat a breath of it it's so rich w/ pure. The few chimney spires of the rock formations overlook the lake/ reservoir, & the setting sun is serene. A good place to say a prayer.

About 1;30am+ up and out for a bathhouse pit stop... and I have to go back out for a little while to look at the stars. Pure Black Wyoming plains dark sky. NO city lights. Your eyes have adjusted and have their night vision. Oh God,... this is what you wanted me to see. I've seen many nights of Western sky/ stars in the most remote of arid plains in the Oklahoma panhandle, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, Colo, Wyoming and Montana.... and this is one of the best yet.  I could describe this in detail; ... if you had a few days to listen.

The heavens are in view. w/ the naked eye I can see the Milky Way. ... running across the sky. A clear white band of billions of stars... and the dark spaces are showing more billions of stars. Go back and get the binocs and lay in the road looking up -- there are no cars, no movement-- ... no one else out here , just me and the stars, just quiet, light breeze, 48*. ... and it's June.  Sometimes the snakes lay on the road too. ... for the heat from the sun warmed asphalt.

It takes you to another planet. Another time and place... of how insignificant you are in the big scheme of things. To view the heavens as they were meant to be seen... come here. No wonder the native American Indians referred to life as the great mystery. ... I wonder what the Indians thought while star gazing. This is a powerful place. My heart will always remember here... and belong here. In the pure Black sky, in a few minutes saw a couple of shooting stars...

the brief mini-seconds of a shooting star here... would take me a few hours to explain the sight.

Oh Lord,... thank you for a wonderful day. I did not waste this view. ... and stand in awe.

firehole camp is the northernmost edge of Flaming gorge. I guess you could call it the high plains,... arid plains.... I call it the dessert. It is stunningly,... breathtakingly beutiful. Trout River, NewFoundland -- some different text - Gros Morne National Park Canada

Trout River, Newfoundland is the real, raw working -fishing- harbor... It's a hard enviornment. Hard working people. Hard life.

Driving there today in the rain / fog...limited view , but amazing place. It's time to start heading south to Port Aux Basque and catch a ship back to North Sydney, Nova Scotia.

So today will take some side-outs to see some more of Newfoundland. At Wiltondale turn west on Hwy 431 and head out to see Woody Point.

At Woody Point, NFLD on Bonne Bay you can see Norris Point... originaly called North Point and over the years became "Norris" from slang.

Some of the mountains here are 2,100' elev. Scenic / dramatic this close to the coast. You get there and see that it's a hard enviornment. Hard working people. Hard life.

This is the real working docks of fishermen in Newfoundland. NOT pretty docks w/ pleasure boats... these are the guys that go to sea to fish!

I keep mentioning on this journey that in these places life is ruled and lived by the tides. That place is here; this is what it looks like.

It's overcast gloomy, rain, fog... and this is July. You can imagine how hard the winter is here when you see the fireplace wood cut and stacked in preparation.

Also see Trout River 1 and for more pix of the docks/ warf -- Trout River 3
