You get up at 4;15 to see this. It's worth it. There's maybe 1 or 2 other people out at this early.
Sunrise at Mammoth Hot Springs is really surreal. This is beautiful at noon.... Sunrise is just beyond refreshing. Redeeming. It's that powerful.
These pix don't even get close at how beautiful it is. Quiet. No noise. No cars. There were still a couple of Elk males up on the ridge bugling / shrieking for mares and sows to join his pack.for rutting season.
The upflows of minerals cakes up and creates terraces of the hot springs. Traver-tine is the geological term of the buildup. The colors of the crystals forming dams ... like molecules weaved together is like coral... and the mineral colors are better than the color wheel.
Don't miss seeing this.
