Tatanka... bison Lamar Valley
Driving out Lamar River Valley is beautiful scenery for a pleasant afternoon in Yellowstone.
And then you come up on some herds of bison... buffalo.... Tatanka. Absolutely beautiful to see this.
200 years ago the bison herds were in the millions of bison. Estimates were 3 to 4 million bison. I would have loved to have seen this as the ancestral native americans did. The bison herds were a way of life,... of hunting for the many tribes dating back to ...??? a millenia?
When seeing the Bighorn canyon... this canyon was the transit route of the many tribes... the Crow, the Blackfoot... and more... coming out of the Rockies to the plains to hunt bison; their way of life. The bison herds sustained and defined tribes for centuries... if not millenia.
This was a powerful sight to see these herds... even though they are small (200 or so) by historical measure.
A good day!

You never drink twice from the same stream.
Just because you wander doesn't mean you're lost.
