ITL  Rome, Italy 11  Piazza di Spagna and DeMeddici house

Hoped the Metro subway to The Piazza di Spagna = The Spanish Plaza.

The square was an oblong trapezoid shape, not an even rectangle.

The Spanish Embassy has been here a few hundred years.

The Spanish steps were fenced/ blocked off for some work being done... very unique though.

And at the top is a smaller plaza and the DeMeddici house.

At the bottom of the Spanish Stairs is this neat fountain ... the Fontain della Barcaccia, Like all Italian fountains... very artistic and beautiful.

And also covered up with tourists.

At the center of the Piazza was this tower/ stantion.

Shops line the Piazza.

The main street leading to the Tiber River,... to The Vatican,... to the Castel Sant' Angelo - also see other blog posts-

On this street was a great view of The Spanish Steps staircase.

Every high end retailer had a storefront on this street. Rolex, Cartier, Prada... you name it,... chic retailers,... they were here.

Piazza di Spagna, at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, is one of the most famous squares in Rome (Italy). It owes its name to the Palazzo di Spagna, seat of the Embassy of Spain among the Holy See. Nearby is the famed Column of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The imposing 135-step staircase was inaugurated by Pope Benedict XIII during the 1725 Jubilee; it was released (thanks to French loans granted in 1721–1725) in order to connect the Bourbon Spanish embassy (from which the square takes its name) to the Church of Trinità dei Monti.
