Venice, Italy Grand Canal to Lido 3

Shipping out this afternoon to Florence & took the water bus public transportation down the Grand Canal to Lido.

Quite a spectacle. There is nothing close to describing the going from the canal into the open bay on the end of the canal.

It opens up into the Adriatic sea... there's still a barrier island but you get the feel of leaving the port of Venice... heading out into the world of the Mediterranean sea... just like the sailors and traders did 1,000 years ago.

The sea captains on ships/ boats... Marco Polo... all the explorers before saw this same view.

There's the tower at Piazza - Plaza Marco Polo.

The cathedrals... so many places to see.... it will take a month to see all of this.

This was the crossroads of where East meets West... the hemispheres... for centuries. The navies... the armies... came through here. The Etruscan's, The Byzantines, The Huns, The Hordes, The Franks, Autilla, Alexander, Hannibal,... they all came through here.

The East side of the sea is the Balkans,... Yugoslavia... more east is Greece... and across the sea to Constantinople/ Istanbul, Turkey... the crossroads of the universe in ancient times.

All the western civ history learned in college would fit into a thimble... here is the real place... and can't be described in this short post. It's an overwhelming blur to go through here; I need to come back for a few years to see all of this.

I'm thankful for another journey to see this.

You never drink twice from the same stream.
