April 16, 2018 Driving through Tuscany

La Verna

Next day was an exploratory drive-thru the Tuscan Countryside to see the
monastery/  Cathedral at La Verna, Italy. This is where Saint Francis of Assisi retreated to
for his meditation years,  I'm not Catholic but the history is St Francis received a stigmata at
this compound Cathedral grounds. He experienced through a vision, experience…
I'm not sure but the wound in the abdomen that Christ had when he was crucified on the cross…
St Francis received.

From Wiki:   According to Christian tradition, in 1224 he received the stigmata
during the apparition of Seraphicangels in a religious ecstasy,[10] which would make him
the second person in Christian tradition after St. Paul (Galatians 6:17) to bear the wounds
of Christ's Passion

The cathedral La Verna was about 40 miles Northwest and it was a nice drive through
the Italian Countryside. So many Vineyards and small village towns... beautiful country.

The church compound was several acres and it was interesting to walk around
up through the woods are overlooking Italian Countryside and valleys and mountains
that you think this is where Saint Francis studied, retired to pray, and meditated at times.

The Bell chimes are always nice to listen to.

Walking through the compound to the cathedral many nooks and crannies, chapels,
small chapels. The cathedral was beautiful like all the Catholic Cathedrals are in Italy...
hard to describe it's so ornate and so beautiful so much history.

Marble statues, oil paintings,  paintings of Bishops, Archbishops, Dukes, Earles,
and other historical figures. a couple of good hours to walk through this and see it.

Could have spent more time to see more but this is Italy; you could spend months right here
and still not learned everything that you see the history, or story behind it.
St Francis was the founder of The Franciscan Order.
A good day!!! An amazing day!!! Thank you for this experience.

You never drink twice from the same stream.

Just because you wander doesn't mean you're lost.
