Florence, Italy Piazzale Michelangelo  Michelangelo Square 3

Start the day out at the transit plaza. The main Florence bus depot is across the street from the train station.

This cathedral bell tower overlooks the transit square. It's architecture is distinct and unique like most of Italy.

You can buy a bus transit ticket in the train station. 1.5 Euro for a single bus pass ticket. ... or a day pass on ALL city transit for E6 Euro; that is the best as you can hop on any bus all day long.

The buses go through Florence and has many wonderful places to stop but the best is to go up to Piazzale Michalangelo; Michaleangelo Square.  ... for $1.50 ... a bargain!

After 20 minutes of stops the #12, and/or #13 bus arrives at Michalangelo Square, a parking lot... past the cars you can see the main David statue; The David and the four allegories of the Medici Chapel of San Lorenzo.

Walk around a couple of minutes... there are street vendors under tent canopys selling souveniers and trinkets... Tee-shirts... "David" statues ect...

Then you walk over to the overlook of Florence.

Oh.. God... this is the view.

This is what you came for.

This is what the Lord wanted me to see.  Florence, Italy...

The Florence valley...

overlooking the the rennasainse town of Florence.  ... maybe the best view of Florence that captures the magnificence.

You see the city of Florence... the orange reddish barrel tile roofs...

The panoramic view of the heart... the origin of the renassaince... right here.

From left to right you see the Florence city wall...

to the Cathedrals...

to the DOMA... this is the most majestic view of the Doma... to begin to understand the significance of its dominance of Florence... and its dominace of the world in its time.

You see how significant it projects...   This was the center of the universe in the Rennasaince.  Rome was Rome with its power... THIS is Florence!

You can see the parapets of the Florentine tower.... The Florence mint that struck "The Florin"... the Florentine... the 1st gold coin that was used as a medium of trade standard in the 7th century,... mostly from 1252 to 1533 to become the major commercial trading vehicle that began what would become modern banking. Some say it was the origin... the beginning of "The Illuminatti"... the 1st banking cartel.

From the left you see the Florence valley... the Arno river flowing through the valley.

Ponte Vecchio bridge.  The historical landmark from the 13th century.  The local Florence council members begged and convinced a WWII Nazi General to spare the Vecchio bridge from demolition... do not destroy the Vecchio bridge when the Nazis retreated from the Allied capture. I regret not visiting the Allied soldiers burial fields.

ALL other bridges across the Arno River were destroyed by the Nazis.

On the other side of the Florence valley.... Northeast from this view is Fiesole. ... also see the Fiesole post.

Piazzale Michelangelo (Michelangelo Square)

The square, dedicated to the Renaissance sculptor Michelangelo, has bronze copies of some of his marble works found elsewhere in Florence: the David and the four allegories of the Medici Chapel of San Lorenzo. The monument was brought up by nine pairs of oxen on 25 June 1873.

You never drink twice from the same stream.

Just because you wander doesn't mean you're lost.
