Tuesday September 17, 2019 7.5mi hike today
Bunked at O Cruciero albergue and am ready to get an early start on the Camino.
At the starting point is the chapel we visited last evening. This small chapel was once a hospital for pilgrims and was under the protection of the Knights Templar. Amazing history on the Camino in unsuspecting places.
Morning fog to start the day. It's cool, damp.
Not overcast so much as morning obscure cloud layer. I'm betting that the cloud layer will burn off by 10.
Roadside hiking here. More eucalyptus tree groves.
Morning fog layers in the Spanish mountains. That's a radio tower on a mountain top.
Camino marker. Pilgrims leave mementos.
Not sure what this means.
And cows are herded between grazing pastures... often. Get used to this.
Most family farms/ houses have a garden, a corn crib, and some have a few chickens.
Got caught again in the running of the cows. This is the 2nd or 3rd? time.

Waht a wonderful Camino hike. Suns out now and were under a woodland canopy for a while.

The culprits... Oh sure,... now their all nice and don't poop on the Camino. Go back the last 20 miles and see how it smells.
I have to go in these Iglesias/ churches/ chapels. None are alike. Similar in ways, but all with their own unique personality and history.
City Hall Palas de Rei.
100 yards down from City Hall is this city square. A sculptured garden monument of The Cross of Saint James, also called The Santiago Cross. This was the emblem of the 12th century Galacian-Spanish military Order of Santiago.

Crossed paths with the Canadian sisters again. Double checking maps, directions, landmarks... they became good friends on The Camino.
Talking, visiting's over. Move out.
Our Camino booking agent put us here in this hotel/ lodge,... 8+ Km out of town. We called and a taxi drove us out through the country. Of all of the Camino adventure, the Camino hike... this place was a disappointment in a way.
We were booked 8km out of town. I would have like to walk around the city like always and scout out any interesting places. There was nothing else here except the lodging. Yes there were chairs and tables outside and lounge dens to sit and talk. It was a nice building. Nice facility. The host seemed indifferent and not gruff,... but not smiling friendly and indifferent to us. Maybe it was a bad day.
This is it.
A nice/ rustic ceiling dining room but no pilgrims menu for 10euro. They fixed one dish/ dinner. Made no attempt to translate... I mean if you are catering to French speaking tourists for your livelihood... try to speak SOME French... just saying. Anyway, you ate what they served; 51euro. That's the dinner tab after you've eaten. Not very personable. I will NOT return.

Sleep tonight and be on our way in the morning. Will be glad to get moving.
