Nobody can describe this. Nobody can take a pic that describes this. these few pix can't even get close to showing the granduer of the canyon.

It IS timeless... like looking into the abyss of a thousand years. You can't keep from staring into the abyss of time. It IS that powerful.

Everybody takes pix of the canyon. These are not better... no different. Nobody can capture this. Nobody !

You can't even get all of it into one pic. It's not possible. You just have to stumble along the rim in awe. ... to get that feeling of how minute and insignificant you are. Surely there are heavens to explain this. it's almost beyond what the mind can comprehend. My pix are nothing special... just my pix.

I got to see this as a teenager.... Thank you Lord for another chance to see this again. After 40 years... it was worth the wait....it's even more beautiful now.

The rock strata.... it defines our time here.... our minute space between the eternities.

You never drink twice from the same stream.

Florence, Italy 1 eve    

The Italian trains are great. Really a phenomenon... sleek,... fast,... 300km/ 180mph...fantastic.  

We get into the Florence train station at 5pm... it's dark... find the taxi stand and am lucky to get cab driver Simon... Simone...

In a mile & half drive he brings us up to speed... Florence is a safe city to travel in. We can walk around here at night with no problem; this is a safe city.  

[Back in the US a couple of months... there is a murder of a tourist lady - strange circumstances- very rare. ... was tied to nightclubs and drugs.] 

We ride the main drag to our hotel in 5 mins. Check into the hotel.... a few minutes to square away our bags.... and out into Florence for the night.  

Our hotel was near the Liberta circle arch... 

The Piazza della Liberta arch.  ....built in 1738 to celebrate the arrival of the Habsburg-Lorraine dynasty in Florence. I love this European history. 

We walked in the evening down several blocks to a local market.
