Haines AK 2B Chilkoot

Haines Alaska 2B Chilkoot Lake

Heading out of Inland Alaska back to the states on the Alcan Highway # 1.

At Haines Junction turn South on Highway 3.

Drove about 150 miles on the famous Haines Highway, Some very unique scenery.

About 5 miles north of the Town, Haines, Alaska/ Haines Borough we come along side the Chilkat river which is famous for bald eagle watching when the salmon are spawning/ running.

On down onto the Chilkat peninsula and come to town, Haines Borough and it is a very picturesque Alaskan saltwater port.

Haines Marina has mostly commercial saltwater fishing charters now with no cannery row.

Haines Marina is deep enough for cruise ships.

Haines Borough on the cove with the chilkat mountain range above. Really beautiful.

All the white buildings are from the Army Post Fort Seward built around 1904 and served as soldiers barracks during World War II.

Up at the Fort overlooking the bay we're lucky enough to see a rainbow on Haines Alaska Bay.

A totem pole overlooking Haines Cove. The Tlingit indigenous peoples along the Alaskan Coast here go back thousands of years.

First night at Haines was at Chilkat State Park. This is actually second day/ night in Haines. Head out Highway 7 to Chilkoot Lake State Park.

We find a campsite right on the edge of Chilkoot Lake- grab it ! Stunningly beautiful Alaskan mountains, Lake, Lake Fog, and can fish right there 100 ft from the camp. Is this a great country or what?

Will stop here on this post and do another one about fishing with the Bears less than a mile from where our campsite is.

the Rangers had to chain down the dumpster beside the campsite because the Bears were pushing it down the road.

You never drink twice from the same stream.

Just because you wander doesn't mean you're lost.
