THE Crossing on Icefields Parkway

Today is the day. Been waiting some 40+ years for today. Wanted to see Banff/ Lake Louise... done. Now it's the real stuff for an explorers heart; The Columbia "Icefields Parkway".

NOT a Flatscreen!

I had no problem with The Crossing. It's a frontier wilderness motel that was quite adequate for me. I also served in the USMC. I don't expect or need a chocolate pillow mint.

Left Baker Creek about 9 and was escorted down to Lake Louise because the Bow Valley Parkway was going to close all day for a bicycle race.

A stop at the visitors center and T-bird trying to line up lodging on the north end of the parkway-- Jasper, Alberta. She has been spooked that lodging in Jasper, Alberta is impossible... that there will be nothing available. ... and in the true fashion of deciding who you'll throw the pass to while you're still in the huddle... T-bird books The Crossing. Another entirely separate post will cover this.

This a is the post for "The Crossing". I am finally off the hook for putting T-bird in the Best Value Inn in Hanksville, Utah

The lodging guests were varied and ranged from some big rig truckers, to tourists, to rugged Canadian guys heading back home to points north like Whitehorse, Dawson, the Yukon, or Alaska. There is no need for this to be a 5 star hilton.

TJ said the crossing burns several hundred gallons of diesel a day to generate electricity. This is in the middle of nowhere... so I'm satisfied.

The Crossing is about half way on The Icefields Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper, Alberta and I recommend that you take your time on this fantastic drive of a lifetime in the Canadian Rockies and take every side-out & overlook for hikes along beautiful streams, glacier lakes, mountain vistas... don't rush this! Take time and enjoy it.
