Ponferrada,Spain... late afternoon. 1st day on/at the Camino... set our backpacks down in the room and headed out to see what's in the town.
Back for a glass of wine and some olives at a cafe on the main square. I can get used to this. Spain is great!
At the town square the band is practicing; we are here for the "Festival". This is a Spanish band/ music... Imagine if Borat put together a band.

Arrived at MAD- Madrid airport at 8am Madrid local time. Been up now since 3;30... some 24+ hours and now a 6 hour bus ride to Ponferrada that's an ordeal in itself.
Made a couple bus stops. 1st was in MAD central station to change to a Ponferrada bus.
2nd stop was in ...I believe... Astorga and got a quick pic of the diocese. This diocese was a significant place in Spanish history!
It was an interesting ride thru the central to northwest route of Spain. Went from green foliage to semi-arid plain to dry/ summer drought, central plateau or meseta of Spain.
The golden brown, drought starved fields looked much like California-- the golden state.

Stop at vendors tents and buy Cheese, bread, and green olives,.. teach the cheese guy to say "Hey Y'all" from Alabama.

Street artists are doing a stilted queen , princess fairy gown- pulling the strings- live person street doll... very effective...many pix... great street art in a procession downtown to the entrance of the Knights Templar castle.
The knights Templar castle is amazing in architecture.

Back in the hotel room... on the village square... trying to get some sleep... Wired from 20+ hours travel. In bed can't doze off... the festival band played 'til 0130. The mood was festive!
Near the end was Elvis' "Wise men" ... Can't stop falling in love song... He is still "The King".

Just because you wander doesn't mean you're lost.
