Cortona, Italy

Heading back to Arezzo was still mid-afternoon and looking at the map decided to try and go
by Cortona,... will spend a few hours there before it gets dark.

Approaching you could see the walled City up on the mountain with the new modern town down
below the bottom of the hill.

Found a parking lot and went into the South entrance small narrow cobblestone Italian street up
through the alleyways.

This was a steep hill climb going into the town square.

From Wiki:  The prevailing character of Cortona’s architecture is medieval with steep narrow streets
situated on a hillside at an elevation of 600 metres (2,000 ft) that embraces a view of the whole of
the Valdichiana. From the Piazza Garibaldi (still referred to by the local population by its older name,
Piazza Carbonaia) is a fine prospect of Lake Trasimeno, scene of Hannibal's ambush of the Roman army
in 217 BC (Battle of Lake Trasimene). Parts of the Etruscan city wall can still be seen today as
the basis of the present wall. The main street, via Nazionale, is the only street in the town with
no gradient, and is still usually referred to by locals by its older name of Ruga Piana.

First stop Cathedral San Domenico.

Climb up into the city on the alleyway cobblestone road and the cathedrals are beyond description.

Second stop: Cathedral of Cortona; Duomo Santa Maria

This is an overwhelming view of the cathedral again too much to describe in a few words.

You are overwhelmed by the beauty and magnificent of The Cathedral of Cortona inside and out.

Italy is a place beyond words,  You cannot grasp the magnitude of the experience. It is overwhelming.
It IS the classroom of Western Civilization. College classes were zero, seeing this is Everything!!!
You cannot take in what you see in a few hours, or days. Even now back from the journey
it is overwhelming of what you see and review in a few pictures.

You never drink twice from the same stream.

Just because you wander doesn't mean you're lost.
