MV Lulu Belle Columbia Glacier 3. Starting the Ingress to the Columbia Glacier Captain Fred slows down the ship and maneuvers through the icebergs.
Steady As She Goes, 3 to 5 knots, passing by Mini icebergs, some as big as a table, some as big as a house,.
Would come around this bend and this Columbia Glacier begins to come into sight. it is phenomenal Beyond description.
Up on the bow now it is 33 degrees, cold, chill, bright blue skies, White Ice glacier. This is beyond description.
These pictures don't begin to capture the surreal phenomenon of this glacier, 10000 years of glacier pouring out to the Sea.
You can see the ice Calving, ice breaking off from the face of the glacier, Calving like a cow delivering.
You hear a crack, a boom, like a shotgun blast; it is the ice breaking off the face of the glacier.
Some of these Calving ice brakes are the size of a bus that splash into the water.
About 45 minutes to an hour up front on station with this glacier is a phenomenal site.
We've been up at the face of the glacier almost an hour, and now time to egress away.
Also see the next blog post of egress from the Columbia glacier here.
You never drink twice from the same stream.
Just because you wander doesn't mean you're lost.
