Walking around the heritage days craft fair, met Cecil Coons,... a real life
???Fletcher??? A Lapidary???? A maker of Arrowhead / spear points ...from Obsidian. ... or other stone ie.. flint ect.
For tens of Thousands of years hunting points were prized in hunter/ gatherer Tribes. Folsom points date back 9,000+ years. This was high Tech for the time. ... how primitive man went out and brought down game / Meat for the Clan / Tribe. A very important skill / craft / talent for a Tribe.
A Primitive man,... a Native American Indian Brave / Warrior... to go out and hunt by himself w/ only a Spear... The Warrior that was intelligent enough to Kill an Elk.... A Deer.... A Bear... They made that guy Chief of the Tribe. He was a Venerated Warrior / Leader.
In a Waring Tribe.. Projectile Points could mean the difference of winning battles in War... or becoming extinct. ... or your clan had meat in it's diet. Stone Cutting Blades were used as Tools to Skin Meat / Hides. It was a treat to spend some time w/ Cecil.
Tracks on The Prairie meant Meat,... or War.
I've had Archaeology classes with university PHD professors that didn't have a spec of the knowledge that Cecil had. I watched him chip Obsidian and make an Arrowhead point in a few minutes; absolutely fascinating to see it done. An Artist / Craftsman / Historian for sure.
Cecil was a really class guy. Down to earth, really nice guy that had preserved the knowledge of eons of hunting / primitive man survival / Stalking Hunting experience.
I wish more time was available to listen as he was working his Art... w/ much pride... and rightly so.
Cecil is a real unique Talented American! Thank you for seeing this today.
You never drink twice from the same stream.
